Premier League outfit West Ham United have sent a good luck message to their Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus ahead of 2023 Africa Cup of Nations opening game between the Black Stars and Cape Verde.
The West Africa powerhouse are aiming to end their 42-year-old continental trophy drought in neighbouring country, Ivory Coast.
The Black Stars will engage Cape Verde at the Stade Félix Houphouët Boigny in Abidjan on Sunday night and are aiming for a flying start to the start.
“Good luck to Mo and Ghana as they begin their AFCON campaign this evening” the club wrote on X.
Meanwhile, it is unknown whether the highly-rated Ghanaian midfielder will be involved in the game due to injury concerns. Kudus joined Black Stars camp late due to a knock.
Despite shaking off the injury to train with the team, it is not certain that he will be handed a starting role in the game.
Ghana are based in Abidjan for the AFCON tournament. They will face Egypt and Mozambique after Cape Verde clash.
The Black Stars have a history of success in the AFCON, having won the title four times, most recently in 1982. However, they have experienced defeat in three finals since then, including losses to Ivory Coast in 1992 on penalties and Egypt in 2010, as well as a repeat defeat to Ivory Coast in 2015.
