Senegal’s national team manager, Aliou Cisse, has rejoined the squad after being briefly hospitalised on Friday due to stomach pain.
The Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) holders’ head coach underwent tests that returned reassuring results, according to a statement from the Senegalese Football Federation released on Saturday.
This development followed Senegal’s 3-1 victory against Cameroon earlier on Friday, securing their spot in the last 16 of the 2023 tournament. The Teranga Lions now boast two wins out of two in the group stage.
Cisse, who took charge in March 2015 and led Senegal to their first Afcon triumph two years later, received medical attention in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast, where his team competed in both of their opening matches at the finals.
The former Senegal defender Cisse had overseen a commanding 3-0 win over The Gambia on Monday, marking a strong start for the world’s 20th-ranked nation in the tournament.
Senegal has the opportunity to secure the top spot in Group C by avoiding defeat against Guinea on Tuesday at 17:00 GMT.
