President Bola Tinubu has urged the Super Eagles to elevate their game and deliver improved performances in the remaining phases of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.
Expressing his reservations about the team’s display in the group stage, the President’s sentiments were conveyed through Sports Minister John Enoh, who addressed the players via a virtual session on Wednesday night in Abidjan.
Enoh, conveying the President’s message, mentioned, “The President told me to inform the players that he wasn’t too impressed with the last match. However, now that they are past the group stages, he expects them to impress him more in the upcoming matches.”
Team captain Ahmed Musa expressed appreciation for the encouragement from the sports minister and extended an invitation to President Tinubu to attend a live match, believing it would significantly boost the players’ motivation.
As the Super Eagles gear up to face the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the last 16 on Saturday at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, the team is determined to demonstrate an elevated performance and advance further in the competition.
