2023 Africa Cup of Nations: Fenerbahce defender Alexander Djiku makes Ghana’s final squad after injury recovery

Fenerbahce defender Alexander Djiku has made a return to Ghana’s final squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after recovering from an injury.

The 29-year-old missed out on the squad that faced Madagascar and Comoros in Ghana’s first two 2026 FIFA World Cup back in November.

Hughton named the squad on Monday morning without Baba in the team.

This season, the former Strasbourg man has featured in 16 games in all competitions and scored one goal.

There are also notable absentees like Arsenal’s Thomas Partey and Leicester City’s Abdul Fatawu Issahaku.

Ghana is set to open their group stage campaign against Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14, 2024 – that is in 13 days.

The Black Stars will then play against record champions Egypt in their second group match against Egypt in four days before wrapping up the group face against Mozambique on January 22.

By January 2024, it will be 42 years since Ghana last won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1982.
