In a spirited preparation for the highly anticipated 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Mozambique’s national football team has descended upon the vibrant city of Johannesburg, setting the stage for an intense training camp.

Led by their coach, Chiquinho Conde, and his dedicated squad, the Mozambican footballers have been honing their skills since December 28, 2023.

Although the squad is not yet in its entirety, the players present have wasted no time, diving headfirst into rigorous exercises as they eagerly await the arrival of their teammates still committed to their clubs abroad. The inaugural training session, held on December 29, marked the initiation of what promises to be a transformative journey for the Mozambican national team.

With the training camp set to persist until January 9, 2024, Mozambique aims to meticulously refine its strategies, bolster team cohesion, and fine-tune individual skills. The significance of this preparatory phase cannot be overstated as the Mambas gear up to represent their nation on the grand stage of the 34th edition of AFCON in Ivory Coast.

In a strategic move to gauge their readiness, Mozambique is scheduled to engage in a test match against Lesotho on January 6, 2024. This encounter will serve as a litmus test for the team’s strengths and areas that may require further attention in the remaining days of training.

Adding to the anticipation, the Mozambican Football Federation (FMF) has announced two additional friendly matches, opponents yet to be disclosed, as part of the team’s final preparations.

Following these crucial adjustments and friendly encounters, the Mambas will embark on their journey to Ivory Coast, carrying with them the hopes and aspirations of an entire nation.

The Mambas are in Group B with Ghana, Cape Verde, and record winners Egypt.
