In Abidjan, a Ghanaian supporter finds themselves in police custody after assaulting Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton at the national team’s hotel.

The incident unfolded following Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Reports indicate that the assailant, now detained, attempted to physically harm the coach but was thwarted by Ghanaian diplomats present.

While Coach Hughton was safely escorted away, the unidentified suspect was handed over to the Cote d’Ivoire police, who will determine the appropriate course of action.

Despite the setback, Coach Chris Hughton and his charges will look to bounce back in their second group b game against Egypt on Thursday.
