Joseph Paintsil has expressed sincere regret for the Black Stars’ early exit from the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
Ghana’s hopes of advancing to the knockout stages were dashed after a 2-2 draw against Mozambique on Monday.
The Black Stars finished third in Group B with two points following a 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde and a 2-2 draw against Egypt.
In a social media post, Paintsil apologized to the people of Ghana, acknowledging the disappointment and expressing gratitude for the support during challenging moments.
He wrote, “Sincere apologies to the good people of Ghana. We are truly sorry for not meeting your expectations. Important lessons to take away from this unforgettable experience. 💔 Thank you for coming through with your support in our low moments. 🙏”
Ghana’s elimination marks a back-to-back group stage exit from the African Cup of Nations, following a similar outcome in the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.
Despite the disappointment, Paintsil will now shift his focus to rejoining his Genk teammates and continuing the season after Ghana’s AFCON exit.
