Ghana Premier League

The 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season is set to resume this weekend after going on break for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

In a weekend where the second round of the league campaign will kick off, all but two games will be played.

Among the seven games that will be played, Hearts of Oak will host Real Tamale United (RTU).

Here’s a preview of what you need to know before the Round 18 game on Sunday, February 25.

Head-to-head:

In recent seasons, Hearts of Oak have struggled to play against Real Tamale United.

The data from the last five matches are mostly in favour of the team based in Tamale.

In those games, Real Tamale United have won four consecutive games with the other game only ending in a draw for the Phobians to pick just a point.

From the statistics, it makes this weekend’s clash a very tricky one for Hearts of Oak.

Talking points.

While a win will be difficult to come by for Hearts of Oak, the fans will not settle for anything less.

New head coach Aboubakar Ouattara is likely to be in the dugout and will be hoping to end the poor run of his new club against the opponent in his first game in charge.

For RTU, the visitors will be full of confidence knowing that they’ve been superior in the last five outings.

Standings:

Hearts of Oak head into this contest in a better position on the Ghana Premier League table.

The Phobians after 17 games are 11th on the table with 21 points.

RTU on the other hand have 17 points from 17 games and sits 17th on the league table.

Match details.

Sunday’s clash between Hearts of Oak and RTU will be played at the WAFA Park in Sogakope.

The venue has been adopted by the Phobians as their temporary home venue.

The game will kick off at 3 pm.
