Kickoffghana.com writer Daraja Kapoor rates the performance of Black Stars players in their 2-0 defeat to Uruguay in the final 2022 World Cup Group H game on Friday.
Every player is marked out of 10.
Lawrence Ati-Zigi 7- Conceded two goal but pulled some top draw saves to deny Uruguay. Unlucky to be on the losing side.
Alidu Seidu 5- Decent. Didn’t do too much wrong and was solid defensively.
Daniel Amartey 4- A very shaky performance from the usually reliable defender. Was lucky not to have conceded a penalty in the second half.
Mohammed Salisu 5 – A goal line clearance early in the game but like his centre-back partner, he wasn’t at his very best today.
Baba Rahman 4- marked his 50th appearance for the Black Stars with a defeat. Look lethargic and disinterested at times in defense and didn’t offer much going forward either.
Abdul Samed Salis 6- Neat and tidy. Very matured display in the middle of the pitch.
Thomas Partey 6- another uneventful display by the Arsenal star. Went about his business quietly in midfield but ultimately failed to have the desired impact.
Mohammed Kudus 7 – Always looked like Ghana’s biggest threat. Won the penalty that was missed and remained a constant danger for the Uruguay defense. The Ajax midfielder has established himself as Ghana’s most important player.
Andre Ayew 3- His penalty miss early in the game set the tone for what was a difficult game for Ghana. Subbed of at half time.
Jordan Ayew 3– gave away possession cheaply in the build up to Uruguay’s opening goal and was not effective overall. Subbed off at halftime
Inaki Williams 3- largely anonymous once again. Didn’t have any real effect on proceedings and was replaced by Antoine Semenyo with 20 minutes to go.
SUBS
Kamaldeen Sulemana 7 -looked really bright after coming on at the break. Easily Ghana’s best attacker in the second half. Looked really dangerous 1 v 1 and is definitely one to keep an eye on going forward.
Osman Bukari 5 – Showed some promise and got himself in really good positions. Provided width and was always positive with his runs behind the defense. There is a sense that he will play a big part for Ghana going forward.
Antoine Semenyo 5- impressive cameo. Could’ve easily had two goals on another day but for some impressive stops by the Uruguay goalkeeper.
Daniel Kofi-Kyere 5- N/A
Abdul Fatawu Issahaku N/A- Finally got the chance to make his World Cup but was given little time to have any meaningful impact.
