Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has advised Ghanaians to lower their expectations ahead of the 2022 World Cup to be staged in Qatar.
The Black Stars have been paired with Portugal, Uruguay and Korea Republic in the Group H of the tournament which kicks off from November 21 to December 18 in Qatar.
The four-time Africa champions will be making their fourth appearance at the tournament after qualifying ahead of Nigeria in the playoffs.
The Super Eagles were tipped to qualify in the two-legged encounter after parading a star-studded side. However the Black Stars shocked the Super Eagles with a 1-1 draw in Abuja to secure qualification.
Gyan who holds the record as the top-scoring African with the most goals at the tournament says Ghanaians must lower their expectations and build a formidable team for the World Cup.
“For me, my advice is to lower our expectations for now and then build the new team,” Gyan told Joy FM.
“We know we are Ghana, and we have done it before, but maybe the players who are not involved are not ready enough, so we should give them time to make sure they get there.
“It is very difficult when you put pressure, so the fans have to be calm.”
The Black Stars will take on Portugal in the first match of the group stage before going on to play against Uruguay and South Korea in the second and third matches respectively.
