2022 World Cup: Abdul Salam Yakubu tips Ghana to make semi-finals in Qatar

President of New Edubiase FC, Abdul Salam Yakubu, has backed the Black Stars to go beyond the quarter finals in the 2022 World Cup.

Ghana made their first appearance at the global showpiece in Germany in 2006 before playing at the 2010 and 2014 tournaments in South Africa and Brazil respectively.

The country’s best appearance came in 2010 when the Black Stars reached the quarter-finals where they were eliminated by Uruguay – a team they will face again in Qatar.

Portugal and South Korea are Ghana’s two other opponents in Group H.

In an interview with Westgold radio, the experienced football administrator tipped Ghana to make it easily out of the group stage.
“I think this team will do better than 2010 squad with the likes of Partey, Dede, Kudus and others we will qualify easily from the Group” he said.
“Portugal‘s leader Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t as active like before.  He isn’t the same player now. South Korea isn’t a football nation and Uruguay has only Suarez and Cavani who are not dangerous like before so we can qualify at their expense”
Abdul Salam Yakubu also reiterated his confidence in technical handlers of the national team; “Otto Addo, George boateng and Chris Houghton are world class coaches with experience of which we saw how technical good they are in the second half of the friendly Ghana played against Brazil. So we hope for the best and wish the black stars the best of luck “
