Hearts of Oak head coach Slavko Matic has heaped praise on his players following their impressive 3-1 win over Accra Lions, playing the game with 10-men on Thursday.
The Phobians ended the five-game unbeaten run of league leaders, Accra Lions on match week seven of the Ghana Premier League at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Hearts took the lead in the 22nd minute through Gladson Awako followed by second half goals from Salifu Ibrahim and Benjamin Yorke. Seidu Sadat gave Lions a consolation goal in the 80th minute.
“Character, beautiful mentality of my players and teamwork and team spirit [did the work],” coach Matic said after the game.
“This is an unbelievable something that I’ve never seen in my life. But we deserved to win.”
The win lifts Hearts of Oak to 6th on the league table, just four points behind leaders Aduana Stars who have amassed 16 points so far.
It was the third victory for Serbian gaffer Slavko Matic in his first four games.
Hearts of Oak will host Dreams FC at the Accra Sports stadium on match week eight before the league breaks for the World Cup.
