2014 World Cup: Waris magic grips French top-flight

Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris is increasing the popularity of the Black Stars ahead of the 2014 World Cup with his extraordinary performance in the French top-flight.

The 22-year-old who is gradually becoming the face of the Ghana strikeforce has put an impressive display on show in the Ligue 1 as he has bagged 7 goals in his last 7 games for Valenciennes.

Waris arrived in France under three months ago from Russian side Spartak moscow with a low-profile but has dominated the headlines in the French press following wonderful displays in front of goal.

Last week, the former Swedish Allsvenskan Golden Shoe Winner was rated as second best striker in France after Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Because of his performance, Valenciennes and French fans have quickly identified themselves with the Black Stars and most of them wave the Ghana flag during games and even go to Valenciennes’s training grounds of the Ghana flag.
