2014 World Cup: Harrison Afful not sure of Ghana starting place despite impressing in thrilling Germany draw

Ghana defender Harrison Afful insists he is not assured of a starting place in the Black Stars despite excelling on his World Cup debut in the thrilling 2-2 draw against Germany.

The 27-year-old impressed at right-back and provided the assist to Ghana’s equalizer in last Saturday’s clash with the European giants in Fortaleza.

Afful convinced through his performance against the Germans he deserves to start for the Black Stars in coming games.

His appreciable level of defending coupled with his ability to provide an extra attacking outlet going forward has endeared him to many soccer fans.

But the Esperance defender is adamant he is yet to be guaranteed a starting place.

“Everything depends on the coach,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“Though I have done well, I cannot say for sure I have to play every game.

“If the coach wants me to play, fine, if he doesn’t, I will keep supporting the team.”

Afful was one of the three changes made from Ghana’s line up in their opening defeat to the USA for the game against Germany.

The others include Fatawu Dauda and Kevin-Prince Boateng.
