The Retired National Footballers Association of Ghana (RENFAG) has heaped praise on the country’s Sports Minister for the role he played in the release of reward package for the retired footballers.
Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah has been hugely credited for playing a significant role in the release of GHS1.7m funds to former players of the Black Stars.
Ghana President John Dramani Mahama rewarded members of the victorious 1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982 who won the African Cup of Nations but have not been rewarded for their selfless contributions.
Former African Footballer of the Year and Kotoko legend Ibrahim Sunday alongside former colleagues Revered Osei Kofi and Willie Klutse were among members of RENFAG who paid a courtesy call on the minister at his office this week.
“We know the kind of things he has done for us, and that is the main reason why we are here, we want to say we thank you for the role you have played, other ministers came and they did nothing, but you have come and you have made the difference so on behalf of my team we have to thank you for the good work you are doing for Ghanaâ€. Sunday Ibrahim said.
A five-member committee has been set up by the Sports Ministry to oversee the disbursement of the amount.
