13th African Games: Ghana’s Black Princesses book place in knockout stage after winning two consecutive games

The Black Princesses of Ghana are through to the knockout stage of the women’s football tournament in the ongoing 13th African Games.

This follows two consecutive wins in the group stages of the tournament.

In the first game of the tournament, the Black Princesses had to labour but eventually secured a narrow win over Ethiopia.

Today at the Cape Coast Stadium, the Black Princesses played their second game in Group A when the team faced off with the Tanzania U20 Women’s national team.

Although the Black Princesses conceded first after Tanzania equalised through Hasnath Ubamba in the 23rd minute, coach Yussif Basigi’s team did not give up.

Late in injury time of the first half, a Tracey Twum wonderful strike restored parity to the game before the break.

In the pulsating contest in the second half, talented forward Mukarama Abdulai scored in the 64th minute to give Ghana the lead.

With the Black Princesses defending their lead and controlling the contest, the team cruised to a 2-1 win at the end of the 90 minutes.

The win means the Ghana U20 women’s national team has qualified for the knockout stage of the football tournament at the 13th African Games.

The Princesses will focus on the final Group A contest against Uganda.
