Man City boss Pep Guardiola was seen fuming after Riyad Mahrez wasted a chance to kill off the Champions League semi-final first leg encounter against Real Madrid.
City had a brilliant start against Madrid as they scored two quick goals inside 11 minutes thanks to Kevin de Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus strikes. With the Premier League side still dominating, Mahrez could have made it 3-0 moments later but the former Leicester City man decided to go for the goal instead of looking for unmarked teammates.
Guardiola’s men had a fantastic counter-attack with Mahrez possessing the ball on the right-wing. The 31-year-old had support on his left side with the likes of De Bruyne and Phil Folden waiting for a cross but Mahrez decided to go for a goal himself rather than squaring for a tap-in.
Mahrez drilled his effort into the side netting and his decision-making left boss Guardiola fuming on the touchline.

Minutes later, Karim Benzema reduced the deficit to 2-1 just before halftime. However, in the second half, Phil Foden grabbed the third goal for City, despite both Mahrez and Foden missing chances early on in the second half.
Alan Shearer’s reaction
“Riyad Mahrez shouldn’t have gone for the top right corner, it’s as simple as that,” he told BBC.
“If he had picked his head up, he’d have seen that Phil Foden was free to his left and he’s got a tap-in. Pep Guardiola is going berzerk on the touchline for that exact reason.”
