Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has openly expressed concern over the club’s current struggles as the Porcupine Warriors prepare for a difficult Ghana Premier League fixture against Bibiani Gold Stars.
Speaking to the club’s media ahead of the encounter at Dun’s Park, Zito admitted the team’s recent performances have fallen below expectations.
Kotoko go into Saturday’s clash on January 17 at 15:30 GMT under pressure after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Swedru All Blacks and settling for a goalless draw against Berekum Chelsea at home.
Zito believes more than results are at stake, insisting the team must rediscover its core principles.
“I told them my piece of mind that I wasn’t happy, we did not do well, the identity is getting missing which is very bad.”
The coach acknowledged that the season began on a positive note but feels standards have dropped in recent weeks.
“We started [the league campaign well] but getting to this period, it is not going well. We should improve and stay focused to play better and then score,” Zito said.
Kotoko will be aiming for a response against defending champions Gold Stars as they seek to steady their campaign.
