Xavi wants to sign Espanyol defender

FC Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez wants to sign Espanyol left-back Adria Pedrosa in the summer.

The club is looking for a long-term replacement for Jordi Alba and has drawn a number of options. Celta Vigo’s Javi Galan has been considered by many as the favorite option but according to a report from Eldesmarque, Xavi wants to sign Pedrosa.

The 23-year-old is an interesting option because he had been a part of the Catalan side since the early stages of his career but moved to their rivals Espanyol in search of more game time.

With over 110 competitive appearances for Espanyol, Pedrosa has impressed the onlookers with his technical prowess and the ability to offer the attacking support going forward something that Xavi sees as an asset.

The left-back has already been involved in 20 goals for the club this season and while he will predominantly deputize Alba in his first season, Xavi feels that he can make the position his own in the coming seasons.

Pedrosa is yet to extend his current contract, which expires at the end of next season although the player does have a hefty €30 million release clause. Espanyol would want to cash on in the player should he refuse to sign a new deal instead of letting him leave for free.
