Burnley continues to feel the consequences of relegation this summer as Vincent Kompany’s Clarets have lost yet another valuable first-team asset as Dutch international striker Wout Weghorst departed Turf Moor.
The club’s official Twitter account announced earlier this evening that the 29-year-old seasoned forward has officially joined Turkish giants Besiktas JK on loan for the duration of the 2022-23 Turkish Süper Lig season.
We can confirm that Wout Weghorst has completed a season-long loan to Beşiktaş.
The 29-year-old has joined the Turkish Süper Lig side for the season after joining Burnley earlier this year from VfL Wolfsburg.

Weghorst had only joined Burnley on deadline day during the January transfer window in a deal that was widely heralded given his pedigree on the continent in highly successful spells with VfL Wolfsburg, AZ Alkmaar, Heracles Almelo, and FC Emmen, but failed to make much of an impact after arriving in England.
The 197cm target man only managed to score twice in twenty appearances for Burnley after the club spent £12million to secure his services from the Bundesliga, and has undoubtedly left the club due to its relegation to the Championship.
Weghorst is the eighth player to leave the club this summer, joining James Tarkowski (Everton), Nick Pope (Newcastle), Erik Pieters, Phil Bardsley, Aaron Lennon, Ben Mee, and Dale Stephens (all on free transfers), leaving new manager Vincent Kompany with a mountain of work to do in order to push the club back into the Premier League at the earliest possible convenience.
Kompany has managed two pieces of business this summer after Burnley sealed deals for Oxford United’s Luke McNally, and Standard Liege’s Samuel Bastien, while also penning moves for Man City U23 defender CJ Egan-Riley and MK Dons midfielder Scott Twine.
Despite the completely moved, it looks to be an uphill battle for Burnley none the less.
