Leeds United are preparing for another season in the Championship after losing the play-off final against Southampton.
The Whites came close to promotion to the Premier League but faltered at the final stage.
They have now lost out on a huge financial incentive by failing to get promoted to the Premier League.
However, their intentions to strengthen the squad have not changed despite their status.
TV Azteca reports that Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez is being pursued by Leeds United in a spectacular summer deal.
After scoring a total 51 goals in the last two seasons, the striker has attracted the attention of some of the biggest clubs in England.
The striker is keen to seal a move to England and the report has mentioned interest in his services from Tottenham, Leeds United, Southampton and Liverpool.
When Gimenez moved from CD Cruz Azul to Feyenoord in July 2022, he developed into a prolific striker.
The 23-year-old didn’t take long to get going and was instrumental in Feyenoord’s Eredivisie championship success in 2022-23.
The Mexican international was at the top of his game the whole season, even though Feyenoord lost the Eredivisie title to a rising PSV Eindhoven this season.
Gimenez scored 23 goals and provided six assists in 30 appearances in the league in 2023-24.
The Whites face tough competition from Premier League clubs to sign him and the fact that they will spend the next season in the Championship will make it difficult to sign the striker.
Leeds United will struggle to sign Gimenez
This looks like an ambitious move from Leeds United, which seems almost impossible to materialise.
It might have been possible if Leeds had won promotion to the Premier League but without the financial boost, it only feels like a dream rather than anything close to reality.
This summer, Leeds will not be shopping in the same market as Spurs or Liverpool, so any striker they buy will cost a lot less.
