West Brom: Wallace set to make transfer choice

West Bromwich Albion target Jed Wallace is set to make a career-defining decision “imminently.”

What’s the word?

That is according to a report from Birmingham Mail, who claim that the Millwall winger is set to leave East London in the coming days, unless he can agree fresh terms with Gary Rowett and co. With that said, it hands Albion the green light to make their move.

The 28-year-old’s contract expires in eight days, and having spent six years at Millwall, contributing to more than 90 goals in just over 250 appearances, he has plenty of options at his disposal – including the possibility of a stay at the New Den.

Though, the report notes that Besiktas boss Valerien Ismael could come sniffing having been previously linked with a move for the Englishman, whilst Burnley, now under the guidance of Vincent Kompany are also said to be linked.

Imagine Wallace & Grant

If Bruce is able to pull off the free signing coup of Wallace, it will represent a serious statement of intent for Baggies fans.

Should Bruce sign Wallace?

Rated at £5.85m by Transfermarkt, Wallace represents serious value considering his creative ability in the final third, so to sign a player of his talent on a free would be the utmost astute business from the Hawthorns hierarchy.

The last three seasons have seen him bag a combined 27 goals and 30 assists in the Championship, which has been split into three very consistent campaigns that have ensured he has conjured up at least 16 goal contributions in each season.

Whilst his versatility in attack is fearsome to the opposition, the potential partnership between Wallace and Karlan Grant could well turn out to be a Championship nightmare for the rest of the league.

Grant ended the campaign as West Brom’s top scorer with 18 goals and possesses a similar level of potency to Wallace in the final third.

Though Wallace is an out-and-out creator who makes things happen for his side – which is exactly what Bruce and co need, having finished the campaign as the sixth lowest scorers in the league with just 52 goals scored.

Bruce should be doing everything he can to convince Wallace to join, as he may be the key to greater goal output and more importantly, the Premier League.
