An update has emerged on West Bromwich Albion and their efforts to improve their squad before the deadline of the January transfer window passes…
What’s the talk?
According to Football Insider, the Baggies are in ‘advanced talks’ to snap up a deal for Leicester City winger Marc Albrighton before the window slams shut.
Would Albrighton be a good signing?
The report claims that Carlos Corberan wants to add to his attacking options heading into the second half of the campaign and the club are now closing in on a swoop for the Premier League and FA Cup winner.
This comes after Fabrizio Romano revealed that West Brom have reached an agreement with top-flight giants Chelsea to sign Omari Hutchinson on loan until the end of the season.
Imagine Hutchinson & Albrighton
Signing Albrighton and Hutchinson could be an exceptional double deal for the Baggies on deadline day as they cover Corberan at both ends of the spectrum.
With the Leicester veteran, the West Brom head coach is set to work with a vastly experienced midfielder who knows how to play at the top level and can lend a hand to the younger members of the squad.
The £45k-per-week 33-year-old has racked up over 300 appearances in the Premier League for Aston Villa and Leicester throughout his career and has produced 19 goals and 47 assists in 295 games for the Foxes in all competitions during his time at the King Power.
Albrighton has accrued five seasons of registering five assists or more in the top flight and this suggests that the gem could provide a creative outlet on the right flank in the second half of the season, particularly given that he is dropping down a division.
Hutchinson, meanwhile, is a 19-year-old winger who has only made two appearances in his senior career for Chelsea. However, the dynamo has shown signs of promise at youth level this season with five goals and seven assists in 14 Premier League 2 outings for the U21 side at Stamford Bridge.
He could use Albrighton as a role model and mentor in the second half of the season and thrive under the 33-year-old’s wing, as the Blues youngster would be training and playing alongside someone who knows exactly how to perform at the top level.
Now, imagine the pair both arriving at The Hawthorns tonight and playing a vital role, using their polar opposite qualities, in helping Corberan’s team to win promotion.
