West Brom: Bruce drops Diangana update

West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Bruce could have Grady Diangana available to him tonight when the Baggies face Sheffield United in the Carabao Cup.

What’s the news?

After the winger was brought off in the latter stages of West Brom’s 1-1 draw against Watford with a suspected injury, Bruce had this to say on Diangana’s current fitness situation.

He said: “Grady we think is going to be okay, it’s just a bit of cramp I think. He reminded us at times what he’s all about. Great ball for [Karlan] Grant, absolutely wonderful pass. He needs to do it week in, week out. That’s the challenge for him.”

A further part of Birmingham Live’s report states: “Bruce may lean on Diangana on Thursday evening in the cup. Alternatively, you can expect to see him, unless anything else happens in the meantime, at Blackburn on Sunday.”

A big boost for West Brom

As the Baggies boss mentioned, the attacker provided the assist for Grant to equalise against the Hornets on Monday night after Ismaila Sarr opened the scoring with an audacious goal from his own half.

Diangana also racked up four key passes in total during the game and ultimately earned himself a solid match rating of 7.5/10, making him the second-highest rated West Brom player on the day according to SofaScore.

In fact, Birmingham Live gave him a match rating of 8/10 as well as describing his assist as “glorious”, and his overall display as “excellent.”

Were you impressed with Diangana against Watford?

Last season ended up being a rather disappointing one for the winger as he ended the campaign with just two goals and one assist to his name in 41 league appearances, as well as an overall performance rating of a woeful 6.39/10, making him the lowest-rated outfield player at the club to start more than seven games according to WhoScored.

However, it seems that he has started this campaign rather brightly considering his efforts against Watford, and with Daryl Dike absent through his own injury, it will be incredibly important that Bruce has all of his attacking options available.

Although the EFL Cup matters less than their league position come the end of the campaign, to have Diangana available for selection after his exploits against the Hornets will undoubtedly be a welcome selection boost for Bruce.
