Wellington and his squad will leave Nairobi for Johannesburg on Thursday after completing a one-week training stint there.
Wellington was assistant coach when Ghana won the Africa and World Youth Championships in 2009 and is confident he can repeat that feat.
But he must tackle the African challenge first and earn a spot as one of the four semi-finalists in Johannesburg to book a place at the World Youth Championships in Colombia.
Ghana’s competition in Group B for that semi-final slot will come from emerging youth football giants Gambia, Cameroon and record winners at this level Nigeria.
The Satellites begin their challenge against the Nigerians and after Nigeria’s coach John Obuh has declared they have no fear of Ghana, who have bossed meetings at this level.
“They do not fear us, neither do we fear them,” Wellington told KickOffGhana.com in response. “But we respect them, we respect their pedigree at this level and we respect what they have achieved at this level.”
