Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has underlined the Atlas Lions’ determination to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, insisting the ambition goes beyond lifting the trophy to delivering what he believes should be the best AFCON in history.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Morocco’s opening fixture against Comoros, Regragui said hosting the tournament is a long-held dream and one the nation is desperate to crown with success on the pitch.
“Hosting the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco has long been a dream. Our goal is to win the title in front of our fans and to deliver the best tournament possible,” Regragui stated.
AFCON 2025 will run from December 21 to January 18, 2026, with the opening match between Morocco and Comoros scheduled for Sunday at 7:00 pm GMT at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.
As hosts, Morocco are eager to make a strong statement in their first outing, but they face a Comoros side determined to spoil the party. Making only their second AFCON appearance, Comoros are confident they can compete and are eyeing a potential upset against the tournament favourites.
All eyes will be on Rabat on Sunday night as Morocco begin their quest for continental glory on home soil.
