Head coach of the Ghana senior national team, Chris Hughton has called on his players to be clinical when chances fall their way.
The Black Stars left it late to get the Hughton era off to a winning start as a late goalmouth scramble provided Bournemouth striker, Antoine Semenyo the opportunity to riffle home the solitary strike of the day.
Ghana created the most chances between the two sides, registering 11 chances on the day but had to wait until the 96th minute to find the winner as they spurned the earlier opportunities.
Hughton praised his team for creating goal-scoring opportunities but also entreated his player to be ruthless in front of goal when they create the chances.
“We had 11 chances, so that’s the first positive. If you had told me we played 96 minutes and created only two or three chances, then that would be worrying. But the fact that we had that many chances today, is an indication that we did great.
“However, we need to be a little more clinical when we have those opportunities. If you’re not [clinical], the opposition could gain confidence from that and that’s what happened today against a very brilliant defensive side,” Hughton told the press after the game.
Ghana will face Angola in Luanda on Monday, March 27 in a Group E matchday 4 game in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifying.
