Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare says he and his fellow local players are mentally prepared to give their best after receiving a call-up to the Black Stars for the upcoming Unity Cup tournament in London.
The 32-year-old shot-stopper is among the squad selected for the four-nation competition and is expected to start in goal when Ghana face Nigeria in the opening match on May 28, 2025.
His selection follows strong performances in the recent World Cup qualifiers, where he kept clean sheets against both Chad and Madagascar.
“I’m grateful to God, our supporters and all Ghanaians for their support,” Asare told Max TV. “It is not easy for a local player to be getting an invite to the Black Stars and every match is a tough one for us, so we are always ready when we get a call-up.”
He continued,
“We have to psyche ourselves and prepare ourselves because anything can happen at any time. Since we have received a call-up, we have to be able to represent and do well so Ghanaians will be proud of us.”
Asare, along with other locally-based players named in the squad, departed Ghana for London in the early hours of Saturday morning as preparations ramp up for the prestigious friendly tournament.
