Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has revealed that reinforcing the defensive midfield was a major priority for the club, following the capture of Prince Badu ahead of the second half of the Ghana Premier League season.
The Kumasi-based giants confirmed the signing of the midfielder on Wednesday, announcing that Badu has joined from Nations FC on a three-year contract.
Zito explained that the move was driven by a clear shortage of natural options in the holding midfield role, forcing the club to act decisively during the transfer window.
“We felt it was very important to strengthen the defensive midfield area,” Zito told AKSC Media. “At the moment, we have only one natural defensive midfielder, and we also have to carefully manage the minutes of Lawson Manu, who is still a young player.”
Badu’s arrival is expected to bring added stability, depth and competition to Kotoko’s midfield as the Porcupine Warriors aim to consolidate their place in the top three and mount a stronger push as the season progresses.
The midfielder impressed during the first round of the campaign, scoring once for Nations FC and establishing himself as one of the standout performers in his role.
