PSG coach Christophe Galtier has revealed the real reason why Kylian Mbappe changed his mind to join Real Madrid last summer.
Kylian Mbappé seemed destined to join Real Madrid ahead of the current season, but he made a dramatic turnaround when he signed a three-year extension with PSG at the end of May. Throughout the year 2021-22, it had been unanimously agreed that he would sign for Madrid on a free transfer when his previous contract with PSG expired.
Mbappé had also rejected many extension offers from PSG throughout the campaign. But, to everyone’s surprise, the crack of Bondy decided to sign a new lease with PSG in May. His coach, Christophe Galtier has now revealed why Mbappé made this decision.
“There are a lot of parameters. The first is his desire. Does he want to continue at PSG? Is he happy here? The first thing to know is if he wants to continue,” explained Galtier. “All of these types of decisions are made between the player and [le directeur sportif] Luis Campos. I don’t think it’s the money. Because world-class players, whether in Spain, England or France, deserve it. They are not there for the money. I think Kylian just loves PSG.
“It’s the same situation as Leo [Messi]. When a player is happy somewhere, he has no reason to leave. To be happy, you have to enjoy it. From the moment the player takes pleasure on the field and feels that he is in a team that can win, he has no reason to leave. The 2018 world champion has been mooted as potentially leaving PSG at the end of the current season. Galtier was asked if he would bet his house on Mbappe’s presence at PSG next season. “I ask you another question: If he is happy, why would Kylian not be here next season? “Galtier replied.
