Ghana’s U20 women’s team wrapped up their final training session in Mbombela ahead of the decisive World Cup qualifier against South Africa.
The Black Princesses are preparing for the return leg determined to correct the mistakes from the first meeting.
Head coach Charles Sampson addressed the media with clear intent before the showdown.
“Today, we’re just working on the last step, which is what we lack a bit. The focus was on the last step. Pressure is part of it; we’re playing to qualify for the World Cup. Unfortunately, we slipped up a bit in the last game. We are ready; the girls are ready to redeem themselves and win tomorrow and qualify for the next stage.
He stressed that efficiency in front of goal remains the critical factor after missed opportunities proved costly previously.
“The defining moment is still about the last step – utilising our chances. We had so many chances in the first game and didn’t utilise them, so our focus has been there. We also know certain patterns of theirs and how we can stop them from scoring and score ourselves.
Confidence within the camp remains high as the technical team fine-tunes tactical details for the encounter.
“After tomorrow’s game, I hope we have the ticket to the next qualifiers. That’s our goal, and all our focus is on that.
Sampson also rallied support from fans back home as the team seeks qualification.
“My message to Ghanaians back home is that they should pray for us and watch us on TV. We’ll do our best to make them proud and make the whole nation proud tomorrow.”
The match is scheduled for Saturday, February 14, 2026, at the Nelspruit-Mbombela Stadium in South Africa, with kickoff set for 13:00 GMT.
