WAFU Zone B U-17: Black Maidens into semis after win over Benin

Ghana’s Black Maidens secured a spot in the semi-finals of the 2024 WAFU Zone B U-17 Girls Tournament after a 3-2 victory over Benin on Saturday.

The match, played at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, saw Benin’s Yenido Gandonou open the scoring in the 12th minute.

However, Ghana’s Gertrude Amoafoh equalized in the 35th minute, and Priscilla Mensah added another goal 15 minutes later, giving Ghana a 2-1 lead at halftime.

Benin’s Gandonou scored her second goal in the 80th minute to level the score, but Amoafoh sealed the win for Ghana with her second goal in the 84th minute.

This victory marks the Black Maidens’ second consecutive win in the tournament, and they now top Group A with six points.

They will face the second-placed team in Group B in the semi-finals.
