Vitesse Arnhem will not sign any player to replace Anthony Annan until his permanent status with the Dutch side is known.
The midfielder’s loan deal with the Eredivisie side will end this month after moving from German club Schalke in mid-season.
His performances helped Vitesse to clinch a Europa League place which has prompted their quest to sign him on a permanent contract.
Talented South African midfielder Tumelo Mopedi of Orlando Pirates has been touted as one of the players to replace Annan.
But Vitesse officials says they will only sign Annan if he decides to return to Schalke or go to another club.
“We want Mopedi to play for us as a defensive midfielder but we already have Anthony Annan from Ghana in the number 6 position,” said their sports director Ted van Leeuwen. “Annan is a fantastic player but we have him on loan only. We also have to wait to see what happens with him.”
Annan moved to Schalke last season after excelling with Norwegian giants Rosenborg but he struggled to hold a position at the German club.
He was loaned out to Vitesse for playing time which has resulted in the massive improvement in his fortunes.
