Vinicius Jr turns down Real Madrid renewal offer as Arsenal interest grows

Vinicius Jr has rejected Real Madrid’s latest proposal to extend his contract, increasing uncertainty over the Brazil winger’s future at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 26-year-old is understood to have declined an offer worth slightly more than £360,000 a week. His representatives are seeking a salary closer to that of Kylian Mbappe, who is currently Real Madrid’s highest-paid player.

Vinicius reportedly wants about €25m net per season. He believes his importance to Real Madrid, together with his performances in recent years, should be reflected in a financial package similar to Mbappe’s.

The latest setback in negotiations has heightened the possibility that Vinicius could leave the Spanish club, particularly as his existing contract is entering its final year.

Real Madrid now face a potentially difficult decision. If an agreement cannot be reached, the club may have to consider selling one of its most valuable players rather than risk losing him for nothing next summer.

Spanish reports indicate that the situation is currently moving towards a transfer rather than a renewal, although discussions between the player and the club have not completely collapsed.

Real Madrid are reportedly unwilling to meet Vinicius’ salary demands immediately, leaving the two sides with considerable differences to resolve. The club and the player still have significant ground to cover before a new agreement can be reached.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Vinicius is said to be remaining calm. He believes another strong season could improve his bargaining position in future negotiations with Real Madrid.

That approach has attracted interest from Arsenal. Manager Mikel Arteta has reportedly identified Vinicius as a leading attacking target after Arsenal’s Premier League triumph.

Vinicius joined Real Madrid in 2018 and has since become one of the club’s most important players. He has made 376 appearances for the Spanish giants, scoring 128 goals during that time.

His status at Real Madrid has strengthened steadily over recent seasons, but the disagreement over salary has now placed his long-term future at the Santiago Bernabeu in doubt.

The club must decide whether to continue working towards a new contract or prepare for the possibility of a transfer. Vinicius, meanwhile, appears ready to wait, with the belief that his performances on the pitch can strengthen his case for a deal closer to Mbappe’s terms.
