VIDEO: Ransford-Yeboah comes off bench to score injury time winner for Hamburg

Newly-capped Ghana international Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer climbed off the bench to score in injury time as Hamburg SV came from behind to beat Hannover 96 away at the HDI-Arena and retain top spot in the 2022/23 German 2. Bundesliga Friday evening.

Playing in front of a capacity 42,200 crowd, the hosts made a dream start.

In the 4th minute, Sei Muroya pounced as Miro Muheim slipped when receiving a pass from Daniel Heuer Fernandes, before bursting into the box and finishing low past the back-tracking Hamburg No.1.

A mistake in the Hannover rearguard almost resulted in an equaliser, but Ron-Robert Zieler was equal to Sonny Kittel’s strike.

Hamburg SV were level with 15 minutes on the clock thanks to an own goal. Hannover’s Julian Börner diverted a Moritz Heyer cross into this own net.

Many chances fell the way of the two sides but neither side could convert with their goalkeepers producing some top saves in between.

Both coaches rang the changes in a nervy finale, in which Hamburg asked more of the questions. That saw Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer – who just returned from his first Ghana duties – introduced in the 69th minute.

Substitute Anssi Suhonen sent in an inviting cross as the visitors upped the ante, but there were no takers.

Hannover backs to the wall, Zieler then had to be on his toes to repel Ransford-Yeboah’s shot that was creeping in at the near post.

There was nothing he could do to stop the newly-capped Ghana Black Stars forward’s next effort, though. Ransford-Yeboah charged through on the counter, before finishing with aplomb in the second minute of added time to extend Hamburg’s winning run to five.

The 2-1 victory means Hamburg continue to stay top of the league.
