Golden Kick coach Nii Parker Hanson has criticised the late penalty decision that handed Asante Kotoko a 2-1 victory in the 2025 MTN FA Cup final.
With the match level at 1-1 and heading for extra time, referee Selorm Yao Bless awarded Kotoko a spot-kick after striker Kwame Opoku went down in the box under pressure from the goalkeeper.
Opoku converted the penalty, securing Kotoko’s 10th FA Cup title and a return to the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time since 2022.
The decision sparked chaos at the University of Ghana Stadium, with fans and Golden Kick players expressing their anger at the referee.
In a tense post-match scene, policemen had to surround the official for protection as tempers flared.
Earlier, Opoku had given Kotoko the lead before Bless Ege equalized for Golden Kick with a sublime free-kick.
Coach Hanson insists the referee’s call was “decisive and disappointing,” denying his side a fair shot at making history.
