Andre Ayew is likely the only Ghanaian footballer abroad who has fans following him to every stadium just to cheer him on.
The Ghana Doha Supporters Union has been attending Al Sadd games solely to cheer on Black Stars captain Ayew, who is an endearing character.
They were at the Education City Stadium, one of the World Cup venues, on Tuesday to support Ayew as Al Sadd faced Al-Sailiya in a Qatar Stars League match.
And they got their money’s worth because Ayew was on fire, scoring the opening goal as Al Sadd won 2-1 to get back on track.
It took Ayew 17 minutes to open the scoring, deafening the home crowd and sending his countrymen into a frenzy.
The 32-year-old was played through on goal and kept his cool to slot the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper.
It was Ayew’s first league goal of the 2022/23 season, but his second in all competitions.
Following the game, Ayew met with his fans outside the stadium to personally thank them for their overwhelming support.
Ayew let the fans take photos with him and conversed with them. He encouraged them to keep working hard in order to realize their dreams.
The group, which is made up of Ghanaians living and working in Qatar, has over 100 members who enjoy watching the superstar footballer.
Ayew, who moved to Qatar in 2021, is a well-liked figure because he consistently performs well in league games.
As a result, his image has been used on posters for the 2022 World Cup, which will be held in Qatar later from November 20 to December 18.
Ayew has scored 19 goals since moving to Qatar, making him one of the country’s most prolific scorers.
