Donny van de Beek has been handed a lifeline to resurrect his career at Old Trafford following the arrival of Erik ten Hag.
Hag was confirmed as the new United boss last week and having worked with the midfielder at Ajax, the Telegraph reports that the player will be handed another chance to impress at his club.
The Telegraph report van de Beek has been handed a lifeline by his former boss at the Johan Cruyff Arena, with ten Hag – who was announced as Solskjaer’s permanent replacement last week – ready to include him in his squad in the build-up to next season.
Van de Beek played a key role in midfield as ten Hag’s Ajax made the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2019 before their heartbreaking elimination at the hands of Tottenham but found games hard to come by at United after arriving in a £40million deal in 2020.
The 25-year-old was handed just four starts in the top flight last season by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and was shipped to Everton earlier in the year on a loan deal to increase his chances of representing the Netherlands in the next World Cup.
De Beek has scored two goals in 50 appearances at Old Trafford but will now be hopeful of becoming a first-team regular under ten Hag but with United linked with Frenkie de Jong and Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni, he will have to improve he is to dislodge the duo from the starting team.
