U-20 WWC: Princesses improved in defeat to Japan – Ben Fokuo

Despite losing against Japan in their second group game at the ongoing 2022 Fifa U-20 Women’s World Cup, Black Princesses head coach Ben Fokuo was satisfied with his side’s performance.

Ghana have failed to score a goal so far in the tournament and are facing another exit from the World Cup – a 6th straight group stage exit.

For Ben Fokuo, it’s unfortunate but they put up a much-improved performance and if not for the penalty awarded against them, the story would have been different.

“It is unfortunate we lost our second group game which means for the 6th attempt, we won’t make it past the group stage.

“Our first half performance was better than the second half. We started the second half on a better note until we conceded the penalty, which pushed the girls down a little bit.

“We conceded another penalty and it is unfortunate to concede through a penalty but I think we played better than our first game,” the Princesses’ trainer said in a post-match interview.

“We wanted to go at least to the quarterfinals but that didn’t happen. It is sad not to make it this time again so we will go back and work hard so that in the next edition, we will try our best to make it from the group stage,” Fokuo added.

Ghana face the Netherlands next to wrap up their campaign in Group D of the Costa Rica tournament.
