Former Nsoatreman FC General Manager, Eric Alagidede, believes Ghana’s U-20 Africa Cup of Nations campaign was derailed by coach Desmond Ofei’s heavy dependence on foreign-based talent.

The Black Satellites saw their tournament hopes dashed after a 2-2 draw with Egypt led to a penalty shootout defeat in the quarter-finals.

Alagidede questioned the decision to rely heavily on players plying their trade abroad with than half of Ofei’s 24-man squad based outside Ghana.

“You [Desmond] are the head coach and preferred foreign-based players and you were allowed to get them so when you don’t qualify, you obviously have to take the blame,” Eric told Asempa FM.

“Ghana has never had a squad dominated by foreign-based players for an Afcon competition. So if you send 14 foreign-based players, what are you telling us? He quizzed.

The defeat extended Ghana’s absence from the U-20 World Cup, with their last appearance dating back to 2015
