Thomas Tuchel has explained his team selection for the team that faced Arsenal in an English Premier League clash on Wednesday night.
The Blues suffered a surprise 4-2 home loss against their London rivals, with many of the fans questioning Tuchel’s team selection.
Antonio Rudiger and Mateo Kovacic missed the match due to minor injuries, with Malang Sarr and Ruben Loftus-Cheek replacing them.
Romelu Lukaku was also preferred upfront, with Kai Havertz, who has been playing as a false number nine in recent months on the bench.
Speaking ahead of the match, Tuchel gave an insight into his choice of players on the night.
“You were asking so much about him so I finally put him in! Kai Havertz is overloaded so it was the moment to go with Romelu.”
The Blues could not cope with the Gunners’ pace and trickery in the opening half, with individual mistakes also evident as the match went into the break tied at 2-2.
Tuchel then made a half-time change, bringing Thiago Silva for Andreas Christensen.
“He said he could not continue so I think he had some problems and that’s why. I don’t take a player off because he makes one mistake. I have to also say the pitch is difficult to play here,”
This was the third consecutive home defeat for the Blues, following losses to Brentford, in the league, and Real Madrid in the Champions League.
“There is nothing more to analyse. We proved in the last three matches and thought we learned our lessons from Brentford and Real Madrid but obviously not,”
