Trump adds club and senior titles to disputed golf record

Donald Trump has added two more trophies to his golf record after claiming victory in the club and senior championships at his own course in New Jersey, prompting renewed questions over the scores recorded.

The US president, 80, reportedly carded an unusually low score of 70 at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster over the weekend, according to The Sun. With the course listed as having a par of 72, that would put him two strokes under par and give him victories in both competitions.

The result would take Trump’s declared total to more than 40 wins.

Footage shared on social media showed Trump receiving loud applause in front of the club’s scoreboard after completing his round. A caption accompanying the video said he had been awarded two trophies for his performance.

The weekend’s score follows an even more remarkable result published by the White House last year. In 2025, it released a scorecard claiming Trump had shot 69 in the same annual event and won by a total margin of 10 strokes.

Trump has frequently spoken about his ability on the golf course and has described himself as an enthusiastic player.

“I’ve played a lot, and I’ve played well. There are very few people who can beat me at golf,” he has said.

However, his reported scores and record of tournament victories have been questioned by critics and sports journalists over several years.

Rick Reilly, the sportswriter who wrote a book about Trump’s golfing habits, has previously challenged the legitimacy of some of the former president’s club championship wins.

“When it comes to cheating, he’s an 11 on a scale of 1 to 10,” Reilly once said.

Trump was also seen visiting troops during his trip to New Jersey. Observers noted that he was still wearing a golf glove while greeting members of the military.

The detail prompted criticism on social media, with one user responding to the video: “Wearing a golf glove. What disrespect!”

Another wrote: “I guess he wears his golf shoes and driving glove everywhere…???”

The footage did not provide independent verification of the scores or explain how the competitions were organised. The claims have nevertheless added two more titles to Trump’s publicised golfing achievements, while continuing the debate over the accuracy of his results.
