During the recent match between Fehervar and Gabala in one of the preliminary rounds of the Conference League, there was a near tragedy, had it not been for the intervention of Asif Mammadov, captain of the visiting team.
Following a collision between two players during an aerial duel, it was Ilkin Qirtimov who came off worse. The collision was very violent and the player was left collapsed on the ground.
After a few moments it seemed that the player was unable to breathe, so Mammadov intervened when he saw his teammate lying unconscious on the ground.
He rushed to try to stop him swallowing his tongue and angrily called for help from the medical team.
As the medics arrived, the player did not hesitate to force his teammate’s jaw in the same way as Simon Kjaer did with Christian Eriksen at the last European Championship, which ended up being decisive in saving his life.
Qirtimov ended up leaving the pitch on a stretcher and going to hospital where various medical tests were carried out, which confirmed that the player was out of danger.
