Tottenham monitoring Josko Gvardiol | FootballFanCast.com

A claim has emerged regarding Tottenham‘s interest in signing Josko Gvardiol in the summer transfer window…

What’s the talk?

According to The Sun, Spurs are monitoring his situation at RB Leipzig as Fabio Paratici weighs up a swoop to sign the defender this summer.

The article was relaying reports on Manchester City and Arsenal’s interest in the centre-back and added in a line of their own on the Lilywhites’ pursuit of him.

The Athletic‘s Jack Pitt-Brooke previously said that it could take “as much as £70m or £80m”, although it remains to be seen how much Tottenham are willing to pay for the Croatian.

Imagine him & Christian Romero

Whilst there is a long way to go before Tottenham fans can expect to see Gvardiol holding up a Spurs shirt, if that happens at all, it is nonetheless exciting to think about what he would be like in the Premier League next season.

The Croatia international has the potential to be a sublime centre-back in the English top flight, and he could form a rock solid partnership with current Spurs defender Christian Romero.

In the Bundesliga last season, Gvardiol averaged a superb SofaScore rating of 7.10 across 29 outings. He made 3.4 tackles and interceptions per game, whilst winning 58% of his duels, as he showcased his ability to win the ball back for his team on a regular basis.

Germania Sport assistant editor Izak Ante Sucic previously hailed the youngster’s talents, saying: “Since he was a child, he’s been built like a tank. He can go forward, he can jump, he can tackle – he can do everything you want.”

At the age of 20, he also has plenty of room left to improve even further, and he is a player who can be brought in to improve the team immediately whilst also being an investment for the future as he develops over time with more experience.

Meanwhile, Romero enjoyed a fantastic debut season with Spurs as he caught the eye in the Premier League, in which he averaged a SofaScore rating of 7.15 and made 4.3 tackles and interceptions per game.

The Argentina international proved that he can deliver quality performances on a regular basis in the English top flight, much like the Leipzig gem has done in Germany.

Imagine him and Gvardiol alongside each other as they both perform to a high level week in, week out in the 2022/23 campaign, making tackles and outmuscling opponents to help Antonio Conte’s side to challenge for the Premier League title…
