Tottenham ‘green light’ Winks sale as Conte’s overhaul ramps up

Tottenham ‘green light’ sale of another midfielder as Conte’s overhaul ramps up

Tottenham Hotspur have come to the definitive decision to part with out-of-favour midfielder Harry Winks this summer, according to reports.

English international Winks, of course, endured another hit-and-miss campaign in 2021/22, rotating in and out of the Lilywhites’ starting XI under the watch of Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte alike.

The closing months of the term, though, saw a new pairing begin to establish themselves as the undisputed first-choice duo at the heart of Conte’s engine room, in the form of Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and January arrival Rodrigo Bentancur.

In turn, reports have long pointed towards Winks being made available for transfer this summer, having failed to carve out a place for himself in the long-term plans of Tottenham’s new boss.

And now, on Monday evening, confirmation of as much has been forthcoming online.

The info comes courtesy of the reliable Dan Kilpatrick of the Evening Standard, who has assured that Winks’ sale has been given the ‘green light’ by the transfer team in north London.

A price-tag of around £20 million is understood to have been slapped on the 26-year-old’s head, with Crystal Palace and Southampton amongst those interested in his signature.

Villarreal primed to swoop

Word of Winks’ likely departure of course comes fresh on the back of another member of Spurs’ midfield ranks too being tipped for an exit over the weeks ahead.

The player in question? Giovani Lo Celso.

Word stemming from the media over the course of the last 48 hours has pointed towards Villarreal expressing a keen interest in making Lo Celso’s arrival permanent, after the Argentine impressed during a loan spell with Unai Emery’s side over the 2nd half of the campaign.

And Conte and co, for their part, would be open to as much, albeit only so long as Lo Celso’s €20 million asking price is met.
