Tottenham have distanced themselves from a potential move for free agent Christian Eriksen this summer, despite seemingly previously leading the race for their former midfielder.
That is according to Football.London, who claim that ‘Spurs were in contact with Eriksen’s camp about a potential return just a couple of weeks ago but have not followed that up since’.
This comes amid interest in the Dane from Manchester United, who are thought to have made an offer for the 29-year-old.
Christian Eriksen will make a decision on his future club soon. Manchester United have confirmed their interest to his agent, while Brentford are still in the race. ?? #transfers
Tottenham, now focused on right back, centre back and then striker after three signings completed.

Tottenham are instead focusing on a right back, centre-back and striker this summer to take their total tally to six, perhaps relying on Eriksen’s desire to remain in London following his successful spell with Brentford to swoop in with a late bid.
However, this may not be foolproof. As per the report, ‘that is not thought to be the only case at this point with so many options on the table for the experienced Premier League midfielder’, which could hand Manchester United the initiative over the Lilywhites.
Eriksen with plenty of options
As per other reports, a whole host of clubs have made contact with Eriksen over a potential move, including several Premier League sides.
Brentford would be keen to keep him, while Everton, Newcastle, Leicester City and West Ham are also thought to be open to signing him. Additionally, a side from La Liga and former side Ajax could make offers for the Dane.
