Tottenham closing on West Brom keeper

Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur are closing on West Bromwich Albion keeper Sam Johnstone.

The Mirror reports that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has given the green light for the move with the keeper keen to return to the Premier League after his club finished tenth in the Championship for the just-concluded season.

The reports indicate that Levy sees the goalkeeper as a bargain buy who can add quality to the squad while freeing up funds to spend elsewhere.

Johnstone has made more than 160 appearances for West Brom and in that time has won three caps for England. The player is seen too as a long-term replacement for captain Hugo Lloris who has been linked with a return to France.

Johnstone on the other hand sees this as an opportunity to increase his chances of making the England squad for the 2022 World Cup with Jordan Pickford’s place between the sticks currently under threat.
