Tom Strand has warned his Medeama side that they face a tough task against Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Confederation Cup play-off tie, but is confident his side has enough quality to progress.

The ambitious Ghanaian side come up against the newly-crowned South African League champions in perhaps the biggest match of their campaign so far.

The game won’t be a walk in the park for the West African who dispatched Libyan side Al Ittihad and Al Shendi of Sudan.

Two years ago, Medeama missed qualification to the group stage of the same competition by a whisker after losing on penalties to Congolese side ac Leopards.

Sundowns on the other hand, have come off the back of a domestic league crown with the side buzzing ahead of the tricky tie against the Ghanaians.

And Swedish coach Tom Strand has warned his players to be wary of the South African champions.

“I feel they will be different,” Tom Strand told Medeamaafmonline.com  “I have watched their games and they are a really strong side.

“Overall we know that the rest is just about putting in a good performance. Both of us have a good a good knowledge of the competition.

“When there is an experience in the opposition club it is always a difficult game but we still feel we have enough quality to have a good chance to go through.

“We want to be in the group stage, so this tie is very important.

“We have to go out there and put up an A-class performance. We cannot afford to let our guard down.

“Like I said, we have to wait and see how it goes.”

Medeama remain Ghana’s surviving team in Africa inter-club competition this year.
