Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank says it was “about time” Mohammed Kudus broke his goal drought, after the Ghana midfielder netted the winner in a 2-1 Premier League victory over Leeds United on Saturday.
The £55m summer signing had gone nine matches without scoring, but his deflected strike in the 57th minute sealed all three points for Spurs at Elland Road. Kudus also assisted Mathys Tel’s opener, capping his most decisive performance yet in a Tottenham shirt.
“I’m pleased for Mo to get his goal and it was about time, and I’m so happy for Mathys as well,” Frank told reporters. “The character he has shown as a young man from day one has really impressed me after the setback of not being in the Champions League squad. He trains well and was ready today.”
Frank, who took charge of Spurs at the start of the season, stressed that mentality and unity remain the cornerstones of his rebuilding project.
“If you want to build any successful team, you need mentality, character, cohesion and togetherness no matter if you play like Inter or Barcelona,” he said. “Whatever the style of play, you need that willingness to do everything to win and I think we’re building that more and more in the team.”
The victory lifted Spurs into second place on the table, underlining their impressive start under the former Brentford boss.
