Even before Ghana’s final squad is released, defender Stephan Ambrosius has ruled himself out of the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar.
The centre-back suffered a significant injury in his thigh while playing for Karlsruher SC in their 4-1 home defeat to Holstein Kiel in the German second tier last Saturday.
Ambrosius – who had made it into the 55-man provisional list submitted to Fifa on October 21 – went down injured in the 87th minute of the game and could not be substituted as his side had exhausted all their 5 changes at the time.
“Very frustrating. Unfortunately, I will miss the next games. I wish the KSC and the national team of Ghana every success for the upcoming tasks,” wrote the 23-year-old former German U=21 national player on Instagram Monday.
Ambrosius, born in Hamburg to Ghanaian parents, only recently committed his international future to Ghana. He will now have to a little longer for his first cap.
The Black Stars will be opening camp for the World Cup later this week by which time the final squad of 26 would have been made public by head coach Otto Addo.
